Salentu, lu sule, lu mare, lu ientu (Salento, the sun, the sea, the wind) and that’s right, Puglia is magical for this too! The beautiful hot summers become livable thanks to the location of the region that cuts the Mediterranean Sea in two and overlooks the Ionian Sea on one side and the Adriatic on the other and thanks to this, the ventilation given the short distance between the two coasts (50 km on average), is assured. It is like when at home you want to ventilate and open the windows at both ends.
I don’t think I’ve ever suffered heat in Puglia, apart from situations that have nothing to do with the weather.
These photos were captured during a walk on the dock of Gallipoli center, a few hours before a fresh fish dinner at Il Bastione, my favorite on site.
If anyone is planning a trip to Puglia, Gallipoli is a destination to not be missed. But don’t bring your hat!
