The luxury of enjoying home and stay in bed at least once a year for most of the morning. It really only happens at Christmas. My ritual is breakfast in bed with panettone, a cup of hot coffee and …. my favorite movie that I watch every year: The Holiday. I have asked myself several times why so many of us love this film, and I think it is precisely because each of us, men and women, find in the four characters a little bit of themselves, in fact all of them are polar opposites.

This morning we respected the traditions and we unpacked the gifts received from all part of the world, replied to dozens and dozens of messages (two phones always double the avalanche effect) and received moving phone calls, from the people closest to me, but to the first time away, but not with the heart. Ciccio received his first gifts, even if the most beautiful one was playing with a nut all over the living room. Federico received his first razor and it almost seems to have reached a halfway point with him transforming into a man.
The house smells of candles, icing sugar, you can hear the bells of the clock square that celebrate the arrival of Christmas in an empty city with no traffic. If there was snow, it would be the cherry on the cake.
The day will ‘continue’ with traditions, in the kitchen the ragù is waiting for me to be transform into lasagna, set the table for lunch decorated with the inevitable nutcrackers and dress up for the day.
I feel that this Christmas, the mood is amplified … will it be that we have become more sensitive or because we are only close at home?
